In this project, we will test several antioxidants for improving the sperm storage in ram and red deer, two important species in the region. We aim at four objectives, hoping to increase the fertility of the samples kept in refrigeration or frozen state:
- We will evaluate several antioxidants during the refrigerated storage and cryopreservation of ram semen, with the purpose of improving the results of artificial insemination.
- We will evaluate these antioxidants in the cryopreservation of spermatozoa from red deer.
- These results will be applied to help the utilization of artificial insemination in sheep as a tool to increase the productivity of local breeds, and to improve the farming of red deer.
During the two next years, we hope to accomplish several milestones, with sound research results, and possibly developing solutions for improving semen preservation.
